Beautiful but definitely not as early as 1931.
Edit: Yep. Searched the Met site, which dates it 1936.

Marlene Dietrich | on the set of ‘Around the world in 80 day’ directed by Michael Anderson, 1956

Even her reflection knows how to fuck a camera with its eyes.

MD as Concha Perez in The Devil is a Woman or…
… what really arrives at the door when you meet a self-described “masc4masc”/”masc seeking same” guy on gay apps & such.

A rare color screen test of John Gilbert (July 10, 1897—January 9, 1936) made shortly before his death. He was still so beautiful. It breaks my heart. The test was made at the behest of Marlene Dietrich, his lover at the time, who wanted him to star in her next picture.

Where can one find the video footage of this screen test online??? And does Marlene Dietrich appear in the footage?

EDIT: Okay, I found out that it appears in episode 12 (“Star Treatment”) of the documentary series, Hollywood: A Celebration of the American Silent Film. The narrator describes the test as if it’s for Desire but gets the date quite wrong. Watch at about 49:50: http://youtu.be/gOQN5vNVYvo?t=49m51s

The question still remains, where’s the rest & is MD in it?

    Reblogged from laundromatlament

Look at this awesome book I found on the street a couple days ago.

    soul-saloon:

It’s called Four Fabulous Faces, a coffee table book with gorgeoousssss pictures of Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Gloria Swanson, and other silent star beauties; it’s a film major’s wet dream. I’m gonna have to start another blog for all the cool shit I find for free on the streets of Berkeley.

Great find, but I wouldn’t pigeonhole most of these ladies as silent film stars.
